Open-plan living looks wonderful and sounds terrible. Tile or timber floors, plasterboard walls and large windows all reflect sound, so conversation bounces and the television has to be turned up. Acoustic slat panels are the usual fix, partly because they work and partly because they look like a design decision rather than a repair.
How they work
Our panels are timber-look slats mounted on a black acoustic backing. The slats break up the flat, reflective surface and the backing absorbs part of the sound that reaches it, which reduces echo and reverberation in the room. They will not soundproof a wall — stopping sound passing between rooms is a different job involving mass and isolation — but they noticeably calm a room that rings.
Sizes and finishes
Panels are 320 × 2900 mm, which suits standard ceiling heights with a single length, and come in Walnut, Black, Oak and a natural Wooden tone. Because the slats are vertical, they also make a room read taller.
Where they earn their place
- Behind the television — the most common spot, and the one that makes the biggest difference to dialogue clarity.
- Home offices — video calls sound better when the room is not echoing.
- Bedrooms — as a bedhead wall, both for warmth and for quiet.
- Cafés, studios and reception areas — where hard surfaces and many voices collide.
Pairing panels
Acoustic panels sit comfortably beside other finishes. A common combination is a slat wall behind a floating TV unit, with WPC marble sheets as the panel directly behind the screen — texture on one side, polish on the other. Our luxury wall panels range covers the same wall in leather or fabric-look finishes if slats are not the look you are after.
Send us your wall dimensions through the quote form and we will tell you how many panels the wall needs.
