Choosing an LED Bathroom Mirror: Defog, Light Colour and Size

An LED mirror is one of the few bathroom upgrades you notice every single morning. The differences between a good one and a cheap one are not obvious in a showroom, so here is what to look at.

Three light colours

Warm, natural and cool white each suit a different task: warm for a relaxed evening bathroom, natural for makeup and shaving because it is closest to daylight, cool for a crisp, clinical look. Being able to switch between them — and dim with a touch sensor — means one mirror handles every part of the day.

The glass itself

Ours is 5mm HD copper-free mirror glass. Copper-free silvering resists the black edge creep that appears on cheaper mirrors in wet rooms, which is the usual reason a bathroom mirror looks tired after a few years.

Sizing over a vanity

  • As a guide, the mirror should be a little narrower than the vanity, not wider.
  • Centre it on the basin, not on the wall, if the two do not align.
  • Leave room for wall lights if you are using them; a backlit mirror often makes them unnecessary.

Our range covers round mirrors at 60, 70 and 80 cm, rectangular at 90 × 70 cm, half moon at 1600 × 900 and 1800 × 1000 mm, plus designer shapes such as Abstract Glow, Flow Glow and Ramp Glow, and an aluminium-framed Runway mirror in gold or black.

Installation notes

An LED mirror needs a power supply behind it, so plan the outlet before tiling. In Australia, wiring in a bathroom is work for a licensed electrician, and bathroom zones determine what can be installed where.
